Official Announcement - New Musical Appointments of The Lydians
The Lydian Singers choir was started in 1979 by Bishop Anstey High School Music Teacher Joyce Spence and comprised mostly past pupils of the school and other members. In 1984 Miss Alma Pierre took direction of the choir and then in 1987 Pat Bishop D.Litt Hon. agreed to take up the baton, and was musical director until her sudden death in 2011.
Ms. Bishop’s defining influence guided the Lydians over twenty-four years of music and performance. Since her passing, the management of the choir at the time led by Mr. Patrick Bertrand, in addition to coping with her loss, placed as a priority the search for a person to take up the challenge of leading the Lydian Singers into a new musical future.
No stranger to The Lydians, Lorraine Granderson has over 30 years' experience conducting, teaching and working with choirs, steelbands and in independent musical productions in Trinidad and Tobago. She has been invited to guest conduct with the Lydians on several occasions and has also been the musical director for major production companies such as the JCS Entertainment musical theatre production company. Ms. Granderson was introduced to the choir at a special rehearsal on Monday 3rd July 2017 at which she addressed the group and thanked the Lydians for the opportunity.
"It is a honour. It is certainly going to be a huge challenge and responsibility. I hope that together we can continue to make beautiful music and to be of service to our country by providing beautiful music." - Lorraine Granderson
